  1. Hi Maggi,
I am not sure if you can read/access my commentary, but I'll try again. Not knowing that you are such a hockey fan, you have to or better you 'must' see the Hockey Hall of Fame, corner Yonge and Front Str., almost across Union Station, i.e. Hauptbahnhof or directly across the BCE Place, very intriguing, a building within a building!. I have lived at 10 Yonge Str. for 2 years, right on the lake, my old hunting grounds, very close. Also don't miss going by boat to Centre Island, ferry terminal foot of Yonge Str., you will have the most beautiful view of the skyline from there.
Hope to hear about, must get my heaad together and start thinking of packing for CANADA!
    Hugs Evelyne & Co.,

  2. Hi again,
Maggi, I totally forgot to tell you, since you are already in Toronto, do take a bus to Niagara (from Union station or the other bus terminal) , you are only about 100 km away from it, it is certainly worthwhile seeing, unless you come back to Toronto in the summer, except you won't see the falls just be faced with masses of tourists!!!
    Take care, hugs from Bregenz

  3. Wow, I just found out how I can read and access my commentary. Enough brainwork for the moment! I wonder how many other readers can access that? I guess everyone in the system.
I am trying to arrage a meeting for you with my best friend in Toronto, but I guess they must have gone out, I can't seem to reach her. I'll try again later!

  5. Good morning Maggi,

super, I am thrilled to see how our (my)communication skills have improved! Thanks also for your e-mail.
Glad you have your trip to Niagara planned.
In regards to bread, you are right, it is a problem, but not if you go to an Italian store, they have crusty baguettes and even darker sorts of bread, which are quite good. We always had a good selection, also for breakfast I recommend 'Good for you' müsli from Sveden at Loblaws, (a large grocery chain), about 5 $ for a bag of I believe 500 grams.
If you were to tell me the address of your hostel, I could recommend you the best store for food shopping in your neighbourhood.
As to the rain, I was afraid of the temperatures at this time of year, although it is not much better here, so you don't miss out on anything at the moment. But hopefully, they temp's will rise from 0 to 30 centrigrades in a day. Here the magnolias have lost their blossoms, in Toronto the only open up around our birthdays (middle of May).
Glad to hear you liked the ROM, my favourite museum. Should you like to see more art, the AGO, Art Gallery of Ontario, is worthwhile also. Henry Moore donated many of his sculptures to the museum, since the town council didn't want to pay for one of his sculptures, so (private) Torontonians started a collection and paid for it. Henry Moore was so thrilled that he then donated (I forgot the exact amount) many many of his sculptures to the museum as gratitude to the citizens of TOR.
Also the town councils were more than stingy even before: when you look at the Old City Hall (on Queen Str.) you will see ugly 'gargoyles' above or below the windows, those are the faces of the town councils who again have not paid the architects and therefore have been put there for punishment!!!
Just a few pointers from my tour guiding years when I was a stduent in the 70's!
Hope the rain stops and you can see Toronto from its best side.
I will try to reach my friend, (she has 3 messages from me by now on her answering machine) they must have gone skiing to Mont Tremblant for Mother's Day?? When will you be back in TOR? The problem is that they are going to Kennebunk Beach / Maine, US. for 4-6 weeks soon.
    Hugs, until next time,
    Evelyne & Co.
